Suwathaa Ayurveda I took one of the rare chances to visit friends at Kuma Village in 2014 - the Ayurveda section then to be operated under the name of SUWATHAA Ayurveda. The place is lovely. The natural beach is stretching over 5 kilometers, the village itself is somewhat picturesque and the people from the surrounding compounds are friendly. This is some sort of an integrated resort-concept, “non-gettho-like” and you start feeling Sri Lanka from inside, not the tourism part of it. I loved the atmosphere when I reached the place after a 2 hrs ride on the highway – a kind of a homecoming if home could be elseplace. A few hundred meters away from Galle Road a very personal ayuvedic village experience starts.

Life & Living Suwathaa operates rooms on grounds exactly located 150 footsteps from the seaside. Spacious, cool, with large ceiling fans and excellent bathrooms.

TV is not very well liked and everything possible is done to avoid disturbances.

The garden is large & tropical & very green & very inviting after treatments (which may be slightly exhausting). Furthermore a pool is provided for those who prefer light exercises in line with doctors recommendation. A 2nd unit of 3 rooms is operated in Thadi Villa, located at the beach, around 100 footsteps away from the Suwathaa treatment centre. The THADI is for those who like to occupy a private garden and do not necessarily enjoy the company of many other people.

The Ayurveda Cure Suwathaa is offering intensive (Ayurveda) cures and very intensive (Purification/Suwathaa) cures, depending on the indicated health situation. In the average Suwathaa is employing 3 doctors and 10 therapists, which is resulting in a DPR-factor of 0,3 and a TPR-factor of 1, unique in the region, granting intensive treatments and extended consultation times. Suwathaa takes pride in the fact that each and every single guest is treated as intensive as possible within the time frame given. The Decision

At the age of 53 it was high time to respect cardio- and aneurismal problems and to decide on significant. The choice: Living life furtheron to the fullest and becoming a regular at respectful clinics, or to respect the bodily demands of a more peaceful and healthy life. In this very personal case the decision was easy: Giving in to limitations and following doctors orders made sense in a way that the possibility of loosing speech due to another stroke or loosing breath due to another heart attack were to shrink considerably. But: It was difficult for me to follow regular processes. I am a child of the city and therefore a constant lack of a green factor makes me long for the tropics whenever I leave the country – for health or other reasons.

The Place To me

Sri Lanka seemed the perfect place to look for remedy. I knew the country and I have heard of a place called Mangrove Escapes with its slightly eccentric house doctor. 1.5 hrs from the airport, after using highways and even a ferry, I found a tropical paradise. 5 Ayurveda-rooms, equipped with fan, bed, writing table and a modern bathroom (I have chosen that). 6 Villa rooms (like the others, but balconies and additional aircon made the difference) a restaurant, lots of outer and inner lounge space and a professionally run ayurveda center were expecting me. 3 pools made me forget I love the sea, and private lessons in Yoga & Thai Chi made me (nearly) forget that I love soccer.

The Ayurveda Cure

Usually, there are a lot of names involved in ayurvedic cures. Purification, Panchacarma, Rejuvenation etc etc. The basic fact at Mangrove is: you receive a careful examination, which can last any time up to 3 hrs, you start learning about your body and mind - which is not always pleasant, but doubtlessly of medical relevance - and the doctor is instantly drawing a treatment plan incl of medication which keeps you occupied for the time of your stay. No matter how you call it – the cure is intense and only the doctor decides on content and extent. Intermediate consultations and a final analysis make sure that you will carry on with a healthy, but different, lifestyle.

Lake Escape Ayurveda Resort

Lake Escape has eight suites, three on the ground floor and five on the first floor. Each suite comes equipped with a flat screen television, music system, a mini-bar, coffee and tea making facilities and large balconies or terraces. Bathrooms are spacious and tastefully organized. Some bathrooms come with rain showers open to the stars. Each suite has a terrace or balcony. Wi-fi is available in the room, by the pool and on the lawn. The suites on the first floor have a Jacuzzi, either on the balcony or inside the bathroom, all with views of the languid Maduganga. King size beds, crisp white sheets and extraordinary levels of customized service provide an added touch of luxury.

Balapitiya is located in close proximity to the Maadhu Ganga, offering pristine views of the lake. Wasantharamaya

Located in Waduwa, the Wasantharamaya is offering authentical Ayurveda-cures with a finishing touch of a classic beach resort stay. The travelling time from the airport, depending on the traffic, could be anything between one and two hours.

Here in Waduwa the tranquil atmosphere captures potential guests, although major attractions are in front of the door. It takes travelers around 30 minutes to reach Colombo Centre, Galle can be reached within an hour, Kandy within 2.5 hrs, but the biggest asset for any guest is on the compound itself: a tropical garden, a large pool and a dreambeach.

Living Wasantharamayas rooms are all located on ground level, 1st or 2nd floor. Guests are facilitated with a living room, a bedroom, an extralarge bathroom and either terrace or balcony with seaview/side-seaview. The VedaKamerayas (Veda Rooms) hold ventilation by fan only, the Deluxe-Rooms are cooled by aircondition. A large restaurant is serving a selection of dishes in line with the determined dosha and adjusted in line with the initial consultation. The overall atmosphere is very familiar and the management makes sure that the “Wasa” is a home away from home for everyone who is on a healthy stopover. The Ayurveda Cure Cures at the Wasantharamaya have mostly a precautious character, although the intended wellbeing of guests may not be mixed up with wellness. After the initial consultation by the house-doctor the cure content is individually adjusted to the personal needs of the guests, disregarding of the length of stay (which should be no less than 13 nights, if cures should be conducted properly). The Maldives-like pictures might give the impression of Spa & Wellness, but the treatment-plan is strict and followed precisely.
